Beauty Beat - Fall 2017 Edition

It's about that time readers! I have a great round up for you all just in time for fall. This latest edition of the beauty beat focuses on skincare, body, fragrance and cosmetics. Fall in Chicago has been slow to arrive which is causing some minor skin issues for me. From the really hot days to the days that begin to get colder, my skin doesn't know what is going on. I've been suffering some rough skin patches around my nose due to a ridiculous bout of allergies and have needed some sensitive skin moisturizing face creams to help with it.

Autumn is a season that creeps up on us. In Chicago, summer has been lingering. Yet, the reality is that before you know it, we are going to be rocking beanie hats daily, getting cozy by the fire and for me that means my skin is seriously going to be drying out. Instead of waiting for dry skin to attack, I think it is important to build up a barrier and work in a routine to ensure I don't have to deal with dry cracked skin into the colder months.

SKIN
Anything with coconut oil is a winner in my book. The Palmer's Coconut Oil Facial Moisturizer does not disappoint. The pleasant smell combined with the lightweight feel of this moisturizer kept my skin moisturized without feeling greasy. Palmer's facial moisturizer is an indulgently creamy, moisture-boosting formula that replenishes and revitalizes skin for a dewy, radiant complexion. The light weight formula helped the product soak in quickly and the naturally skin-healthy coconut water helps maintain optimal hydration and keep skin looking balanced all day long. The coconut oil moisturizer is dermatologist-tested.

Palmer's Coconut Oil Hydrating Facial Mask is a must try for those days that you need a little extra boost. This is a quick mask that I don't mind using during the day before I apply makeup. After washing my face, I will apply this while I finish getting ready and then wash it off before I begin my makeup routine. Palmer's Coconut Oil Facial Mask instantly boosts hydration, replenishes the skin and leaves the skin with a beautiful radiant glow.

I tried out the Vernal brand recently to mix up my skin routine. I find changing things up every so often when it comes to moisture focused products helps my skin. The brand has a focus on anti-aging, but in all honesty, that is not what drew me in. In fact, it's the USDA Certified Organic Ingredients that were highest on my list of reasons to try the brand.

These products can be used in a set for maximum impact,  or can be added one by one to fill a need within your skincare routine. The Vernal Skinourish Super Antioxidant Organic Moisturizer balances and restores. It contains ORAC scale-topping Sumac, which is regarded as the most powerful super antioxidant in the world, containing 3X the amount of antioxidants of acai & 60x that of blueberries. So, what does that mean? Basically, it helps maintain the health, prevent, and/or minimize damage of the skin by supporting the very proteins, cells, tissues, and organs that are targeted by free radicals. The product is also enriched with vitamin C & E, this luxurious cream feeds your skin with super fruits and delivers all-day hydration.

The Bee-Radiant Organic Booster Oil is a great product to apply right after a deep cleanse while your skin is still slightly wet. It is a vitamin-packed, antioxidant-rich elixir for your skin. It's mix of high-potency antioxidants, vitamins and minerals within the silky oil blends well with any cream or foundation acting as a complexion boost. Overall, it promises to help brighten, retain moisture, visibly firm, lift, improve texture of the skin.

Finally, the Hydra Glow Multi-Benefit Serum is the final step in the routine. The multi-benefit serum combines the hydrating power of hyaluronic acid with the healing power of vitamin C to protect, repair and deliver a flawless, radiant glow. Contrary to what is sounds like, hyaluronic acid isn't harsh or skin-stripping at all. In fact, it's the exact opposite – it is a powerful humectant (moisture-binding ingredient) that keeps skin plump and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (carbohydrate) in the human body.

    BODY
Just as I do with my face, I focus on preparing and building a barrier on the skin of my body. In addition to products, upping your water intake ensures that your body is hydrated and that will show when it comes to your skin. If you are not handling the problem from within, no amount of moisturizers are going to nourish your parched skin. So, start from the inside then work your way out. For hands,  Dionis Goat Milk Hand Cream and Dionis Goat Milk Lotion for the body are great products to try out. Goat milk offers benefits not found in traditional body care products. After using these products  your skin feels soft and stays that way. Why? Well, the pH of goat milk is so close to that of your own skin, it absorbs easily and stays in the skin, helping to keep it hydrated and beautiful. The goat milk, and vitamins A and D also help to keep your skin looking great naturally.

Treets Traditions Miracle Oil is a go to product for those days that call for a bit more. It's great to use after a nice warm shower and because it is oil, it adds a bit of a luxurious touch to your routine. Overall, the product is super nourishing and can be used for for face, body, hair, hands and nails. It is made with 6 precious natural oils - including Baobab oil, Marula oil and vitamin E. It helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars. It is highly effective for dehydrated and ageing skin and helps improve the appearance of damaged skin.

    COSMETICS
I have been giving my skin a break from too much cosmetics. After a bout of allergies, the skin around my nose has been inflamed and sensitive. Keeping it moisturized and not applying foundation on top has helped the skin to regenerate. Yet, I still feel I need something to keep me from looking too tired. So, I keep up my brow game and apply mascara before I head out. A new brand I've been testing is Mirenesse. Their Secret Weapon Supreme 24 Hour Mascara is fantastic! I've been blessed with super long lashes and this product sticks to them beautifully and separates the lashes nicely. It isn't clumpy and it's the perfect shade of black. It was developed with an Ultra-light Stretchable Elastic-Gel formula in that gives you ultimate glossy Length, volume and base to tip lash lift.Their ”Bewitching Brush” (inspired by the shape of witches hat) is  tapered to reach the smallest lashes on one end, and rounded on the wider end to easily load lashes for a full and feathery look.

I have been the queen of the at home mani this year. I've been trying to keep my nails strong and beautiful without the price or the toxic harm of salon nails. So, I've opted for my trust LVX polishes and a new product that ensures my nails look tip top despite my sometimes shaky hands. Edge Perfection – is the must try product for a mess-free manicure! Edge Perfection an innovative, easy peel polish barrier that’s making home manicures, pedicures, and touch-ups a breeze. All you do is paint the product around your skin above the nail to protect your cuticles from unwanted polish mishaps.

    FRAGRANCE
Fall is the perfect time to switch up your perfume game. As the months get cooler, opt for something that smells warmer, richer and a bit deeper. Commodity offers a beautiful line of fragrances in conjunction to their home and body products. As a brand they truly embody the ideals of products that are high quality and that have a story to tell. They work with artisans who bring their fragrances to life and who are as unique and inspirational as the scents they create for Commodity. With each perfume, the brand shares the story behind it, the inspiration for the scent and a bit about the perfumer who helped create it. I had the opportunity to try 3 scents for fall that fit my darker mood as the weather cools, but that are still gentle in their aroma. The three scents include: Wool, Book (both part of their black collection) and Gold. They all work well on both men and women.

WoolCreated by perfumer Donna Ramanauskus, is inspired by cool winter nights and cozy sweaters. Wool features touches of Bourbon vanilla and Haitian vetiver. It is a warm and spicy scent that is loved by both men and women. Wool is part of Commodity’s Black Collection, which includes scents that are complex, intense, and moody.

Book - Created by perfumer Ketrin Leka, is inspired by the great novels of Hemingway and Fitzgerald. The scent is an exciting mixture of eucalyptus and sandalwood with many unexpected twists and pleasantries. This is a fresh and woodsy scent that can be worn by both men and women.

Gold - Created by perfumer Donna Ramanauskus, is by far my favorite of the three. It is light and airy and smells deliciously indulgent without the headache that most high end perfumes offer. Gold is inspired by money in liquid form. This delectable scent is capable of lifting your mood with just one spray. As luxurious and elegant as the name suggests, Gold is a warm and gourmand scent that is loved by both men and women. This rich concoction of molten amber and Nubian musk is indulgent enough to bathe in. Gold is part of Commodity’s White Collection, which includes scents that are light, airy, and easy.

And that concludes this edition of the Beauty Beat! I hope you give some of these products a try and if you do, leave a comment or hit us up on facebook to let us know your thoughts! Stay tuned for my next round up of cold weather staples in beauty, grooming and cosmetics!

    Take care,
    Jen
