5th Annual Art Jam Supports Creative Outlets For At-Risk Youth

Since its inception in 2010, The Light of The Heart has worked to provide a positive and creative outlet for at-risk youth in the Aurora community.  “I believe art and love can change the world,” says Melissa Hedlund, the organization’s Executive Director/Founder.  A community art therapy project, The Light of The Heart is the only organization of its kind doing this kind of work in their community.  With the rise of gun violence and gang violence, there is an incredible need to provide a creative outlet for youth to express their pain and anger.  The Light of The Heart strives to fill that need.

“It is my life’s mission to connect people with the light of their hearts through art therapy,” explains Hedlund.  “The Light of The Heart’s mission became to provide a safe an encouraging environment for individuals to uncover the light of their hearts through the creative process of art making.”

You can support this mission by coming out to the 5th Annual Art Jam on October 6, from 5:00 pm to 8 pm, at Millennium Plaza on Stolp Street in downtown Aurora.  This art and music festival will raise funds to provide art therapy and counseling for at-risk and under-resourced children and adolescents in the Aurora area.  There will be live performances from teen bands, artists creating live art activities for the whole family, the Art Jam raffle, food, and fun for all.
