I was pleasantly surprised when I first listened to Meg's EP. To begin, she has a naturally alluring voice. In addition to a beautiful and powerful voice, she also has a very catchy overall sound. Her music consists strongly of piano accompaniment. However, rather than the piano, I think that it's the way her music incorporates an interesting blend of percussion sounds that really makes her songs stand out.
On certain tracks off of her EP, such as "Every Lie" and "Grandma's Hands", she has a choir backing her vocals. The addition of the choir only adds to the compelling melody and captivating verses of her songs. The choir's passionate harmony makes her already soulful music sound all the more empowering.
If I had to choose my favorite from her five-piece EP, it would definitely be the fourth track titled "Turning" and then the song "Every Lie" as a close second. "Turning" immediately caught my attention for a few reasons. This song stood out from the rest of the tracks on her EP with its more darker tones. The song begins with eerie synth chimes that mimic the sound of church bells. The song then transitions to her bluesy vocals which I found especially enchanting on the track. The song in its entirety was beautiful.
Meg Mac is definitely a singer to look out for. Although I missed her concert when she stopped by Chicago, I'm really looking forward to the next time she performs here.
