Happy New Year - Year in Review Letter from the Editor

Hello Readers!

Hope you all had a safe and wonderful New Year! Welcome to 2018! It's been a whirlwind of a year and I am continuously humbled by the work I get to participate in and the creative souls I am surrounded by. This year Halfstack went through a year of evolution. We all pushed ourselves in our creative endeavors and the team worked alongside me to put out some of our best work yet.

Their skills, talents and abilities impress me daily and I am honored to call so many of the Halfstack team not only colleagues, but also friends. They are my guiding light and one of the strongest inspirations I have in my world. Each of the individuals I work with on the Halfstack team from the editorial side, to the creative side to our YouTube fam is a blessing in my life. This year wouldn't be what it was if they were not a part of it. Thank you Halfstackers, for all you do, your constant dedication and your belief in what we do. 2018 has big things in store for us, I can just feel it. In numerology, 2018 is a 2 year. THE 2 YEAR is a slow journey of connection, partnership, relationship, patience, attention to detail, cooperation, sensitivity, and gradual progress. I can feel that in the work that we do and the continued connections we are creating as a team. Thank you all for being a part of this with me.

I worked on an end of year recap for our YouTube channel that went up yesterday. I shared a lot of what we did throughout the year with a focus on the channel, but also on the work we did for each of the issues we released. 2017 was a year of ups and downs. Many would say it was a year of negativity and darkness within the world, but in order for the world to see evolution, there must be a balance. I’m a firm believer that we are in a time of change and that the chaos that this year brought was an opportunity for us to awaken, open our eyes to the good and the bad of the world around us. 2018 is a beautiful opportunity to welcome in positive light and energy into our lives. At Halfstack, 2017 was a year of growth and as a group of creatives and me personally, we were forced out of confined spaces. We explored beyond our comfort zones and didn’t allow boundaries to limit our possibilities.

A lot of the covers and feature stories this year for the magazine reflected our focus on attainability and inclusivity. We are a zine that believes in love and acceptance for our LGBTQ, cis brothers and sisters and those who are gender non conforming . We want to push the envelope on the traditional standards of beauty and break the mold on what society expects to be seen on a magazine cover. We featured an amazing brand this year: Rebirth Garments. Rebirth Garments are gender non-conforming wearables and accessories for people on the full spectrum of gender, size and ability.

Our team continued to slay in their creative endeavors on YouTube and it also grew. Michelle truly pushed herself creatively this year for our YouTube channel, developing and honing her digital skills alongside her gifts and talents in the beauty industry. We welcomed Julio Delgado to the team this year after working with him on our Queens issue. His genuineness, creativity and deep soul just overflows throughout his videos. All of our writers grew and created stories that were motivating, inspiring and informative. The creative team continued to bring those stories to life through gorgeous visuals. Laura pushed herself in creating work that had tremendous depth and meaning and we welcomed two new photographers to the team who hit the music festival circuit this summer with Jennie: Alex Ochoa and Ryan Siu. Ryan helped us close out this year with a beautiful cover of Donnie Smith - the Executive Director of Donda's House.

2017 was truly a year evolution. I’ll take the bad that came with the good. The challenges are what helped us to grow. 2018, we’re coming for you.

Peace and love to you all in the new year from all of us on the Halfstack team!
