Blu & Blue A Sustainable Children's Denim Brand.

New 2018 collection

Have you ever pondered about how safe the clothes your child wears are? Like many busy parents I have never really given it too much thought, I always assume that since I am buying kids clothing from big name retailers they will have had strict guidelines on the manufacturing processes of the garments. I, like a lot of parents out there, wash my kids' new clothes before their first wear and don't give it much thought after that. As consumers we are learning to change our ways and with that demanding industries to meet our needs.

Aaina Jain, a former corporate marketing executive who worked for GAP & Jo Malone saw a need in children's fashion for sustainable clothing, although there were many brands out there who have attempted this she felt that there was something they missed. Aaina originally from Delhi, India, grew up being inspired by her family's garment manufacturing business, with that understanding and her knowledge of brand development she formed Blu & Blue an environmentally sustainable children's denim fashion brand in 2015.

Aaina realized that denim was not being utilized to its full potential in children's wear. With the wide variety of fabrics available in the denim family and knowing how versatile and timeless denim is, it was a no brainer for her. She is a big believer in "doing what is right, not what is easy" and so with that in mind she made sure that no table was left unturned, every piece of clothing was mindfully made from design to manufacturing, where all the criteria from fashion, sustainability, health and safety were met. The excellence in quality of garments that come from Blu & Blue are a result of it being a vertically integrated, independent company that controls its manufacturing and wholesale departments.

Blu & Blue Design

Blu & Blue sources its premium fabrics and trims from renowned mills in Japan, Italy, Turkey and California. The fabrics are free of lead, phthalate and flame retardants, fabrics used for infant and toddler clothing are, what they call "saliva friendly", they are pre washed to ensure safety and softness. The manufacturing facility in India uses processes that aim to lower wastage of any kind. All the water used for washing the garments is heated using solar panels and recycled for later use. “Our facility has the capacity to process and treat 300,000 liters of chemical water per day. We also heat 75,000 liters of water everyday using our solar water heating plant. We care for our environment and have made effective policies to save trees and paper throughout the company,” says Jain.

“Our mission is to do denim right," says Jain. “We care about our kids, our craftsmanship, and our heritage.  Each item is made with our customer in mind - a quality-conscious, fashion forward parent who values well designed, elegant, and sustainable clothing for their children. Each product is thoroughly quality checked and given the Blu seal of approval before it is packaged and shipped to our retailers.”

Final Quality Check at Blu & Blue

The designs generated from Blu & Blue are very play friendly yet stylish. “There is something modern yet traditional about denim, and we embrace that in our clothing. Our clothes are wearable all year long and versatile enough to be dressed up or down. We bring a whole new meaning to denim,” said Jain.

New 2018 Collection

The styles are timeless, the mix of vintage and contemporary has been executed very tastefully. Classic vintage detailing such as peter pan collars and pintucks adorn modern silhouettes. The hand embroidered dresses are absolutely adorable and you won't have your kid complaining that their clothes itch them, thanks to the high standards of quality control at Blu & Blue. This is a constant complaint I receive anytime I buy a dress that has embroidery or embellishments. I find myself trimming off the pretty stuff to avoid having to deal with an irritated little one and more importantly keeping me from going insane. It's nice to know there is a brand out there that recognizes that a child that is happy and comfortable means happy sane parents.
The collections comprise of over 300 unique styles to choose from for boys and girls (0-16 yrs.). Aaina mentioned that their designs are so timeless that their customers still order styles from their very first collection. At Blu & Blue they never close out any collection, so their customers can still order styles from collections past.
