Winter Makeup and Skincare Tips from Glamsquad

Have you guys heard of Glamsquad? I know they aren't in the Chicago-land area yet, but I've used them multiple times on vacation, and it's an amazing service I definitely couldn't live without! You can schedule an artist to come to you for hair and make-up anytime. It's been really helpful to know that I can always have a reliable artist available even when I'm not familiar with the area.  I had the opportunity to sit down with GLAMSQUAD’s Director of Artistry, Kelli J. Bartlett and she spilled the beans on today's hottest trends. I was really excited to hear what some of 2017/2018's brides are getting into.

That's one thing that I can often struggle with as an artist, you always want to make sure that your bride is happy and looking her absolute best on her wedding day, but you also want to make sure her photos perfect as well. Often we have to make the brides a tad more dramatic that what you might be used to as far as everyday makeup, so, if you start too heavy they can be quite shocked. I've also struggled with translating today's trends into the make-up, a smokey eye or dramatic winged liner does not always apply to every bride! Telling them that the photo inspiration that they picked wouldn't suit them, is not an option either.  Being a make-up artist is a lot harder than you think guys!

Having a sit down with an experienced artist to get more ideas and information is something that changes the game. I hope you guys enjoyed this info as much as I do. Don't forget to download the GLAMSQUAD app and get your lash game done on the go baby!

Please list some 2017 trends for brides. What are some makeup and hair looks that are fall and winter appropriate that will give them a seasonal wedding feel?
Metallics are in for fall. For brides, I love a metallic, rose gold lip paired with soft, sculpted eyes and lush lashes. This is a great way to make the metallic lip trend feel bridal and kissable, enhancing the lips while not appearing too bold.

What are some ways to change up your makeup routine for the winter?
In the winter, skin gets dry, so adding more cream products to your routine is key to offset the dryness of the air. Examples:

What about the winter bride? Do you have any makeup suggestions, and looks for them as well?
For the winter bride, it's essential to add life back into the skin in order to achieve that radiant bridal glow. Highlighting is key in the winter as skin tends to appear much duller. To add more vibrancy, opt for a blush and highlight that has a light reflective finish, which will trick cameras into thinking you have glowing skin.

Skincare, what do you REALLY need to be using over 25 to take care of your skin. What's some key ingredients you should be looking for in your products?
Eye cream and retinol is key. Look for products with retinol and vitamin C for brightening.

Holiday is all about metallic eyes. What are your suggestions to get the best metallic look this holiday season.
Adding a metallic eye is a chic and festive addition to your go-to makeup routine for winter/holiday! To create a smoky, metallic eye, start by using a paddle brush to sweep a light charcoal-toned shadow from the lash line to the crease and from the inner corner to the outer corner of your eye. Using the same brush, carefully place a darker gray-black-toned shadow tight to the lash line and lid, being careful not to extend past your brow bone. Next, use your pick of eyeliner (or your darkest shadow shade) to line the upper and lower lash line, and blend. Blending is key as it softens the look and makes the eyeliner appear smudgier and less defined. Swirl a naked brush blending brush (with no eye-shadow) back and forth in the eye socket and then swish it past the brow bone, creating the ideal dreamy diffusion of color. Add a pop of metallic on the lid by using your finger and a silver shadow like, MAC's Silver Ring Eye shadow.

Any tips for our over 40 crowd? What should they be doing differently as far as makeup looks go. Can you give us a couple examples of age appropriate makeup looks?
Ditch overly colorful eye shadows and stick to neutrals to avoid overwhelming your look. Go lighter on foundation to avoid cakey-ness settling into creases caused by aging.
