Brands that Give: Coastal Glasses for Us Four Eyed Fashionistas

For some, wearing glasses is just a fact of life. They might chose the look of frames over using contacts due to prohibitive maintenance cost or just because they like the style of frames. For those of us who opt to rock glasses, they can be a statement making stylish accessory. I personally enjoy changing up my glasses to fit my mood, style and outfit of the day. But, glasses bought at typical retail places can run you hundreds of dollars. A typical visit to the eye doctor - dependent upon your insurance coverage can be a hefty price considering the cost of your check up and the fact that most frames range over $100 USD and as high as $400 USD.

More and more people are choosing to go the online route when it comes to purchasing their eyewear. Getting your prescription glasses online is a lot easier today than it has been in the past. The products are high quality, affordable and there are many options to suit the needs of a variety of shoppers. More and more online shops are popping up hoping to disrupt the traditional eyewear marketing. I've written about purchasing eyewear online before - check out THIS ARTICLE for some tips and trips to make the transition easier. You can also check out my latest collaboration with YouTuber and our Resident Digital Editor: Michelle Swoons highlighting some chic eyewear for the four eyed fashionistas.

Although many of the brands we have showcased offer a great product at a great deal, most of the brands I've spotlighted in the past aren't doing what Coastal is doing.

In honor of our upcoming Giving Issue, the team and I will be sharing brands that give back this month. We have a round up of companies, shops, individuals and community organizations that are doing some good through the work that they do.

As we know, sight is one of our most important senses as it enables us to read, learn, work and enjoy life. So, when this sense is hindered, it can mean major life challenges. When we can't see, life becomes a bit more difficult to navigate. Coastal recently announced the launch of their Buy One, Give One program. The aim at Coastal has always been to improve their customers lives by improving their sight, and through their partnership with the Essilor Vision Foundation they are  working to fulfill this mission on a global scale.

Even thought it is considered a basic human right, 2.5 billion people – one third of the world’s population – do not have good vision or access to good vision services? Coastal and the Essilor Vision Foundation are working to change this. For every pair of glasses bought, they will donate a pair of glasses to someone in need.

Established with the goal of eliminating poor vision and its lifelong consequences, the Essilor Vision Foundation has already provided the means for millions to have access to vision care services, by investing in charitable projects focusing on giving and training primary vision care providers in the most under-served areas of the world.

2017 alone has seen more than 1.5 million people screened and over 400,000 pairs of glasses given to people in need. But despite this great accomplishment, there’s still more to be done. If you're looking for a simple way to give this season and find yourself in need of a new pair, stop by http://www.coastal.com and buy a pair for you so you can give the gift of sight to someone else this holiday season!

Happy Holidays -
Jen
