How to Style: Plum Pieces

Plum is a color that we always see for the fall; however, this fall plum is getting a serious update. Instead of a plum sweater or pant, the hue is being incorporated into anything from patent leather shoes to leather jackets.

I love this hue, since it is super versatile for the season and looks moody and chic. Below are my five tips on how you can style this color for the fall:

1. Find Unique Pieces. Like I stated prior, plum pieces come in anything from shoes to jackets to bags, so choose at least one piece that you love to begin styling. I chose this gorgeous leather jacket and these oxfords for edgy and updated takes on the color.

2. Pair with Neutrals. While this color is not very bright, it is one that still can be toned down a bit with neutrals if you are new to wearing this hue. Add camel and black garments to ground your look.

3. Add Different Details. I picked two plum pieces to style in my look and I didn't stop there with the details. I also chose a sweater with buttons and ruffles for even more added interest. Just be sure that the additional pieces do not compete with the standout color.

4. Play with Print. Colors and prints are the easiest ways to add interest to a look. Since we chose plum as our color, we have some room to play with prints. Leopard print, stripes or polka dots would be great additions to your look when done in neutral colors.
