How to Become the Most Beautiful Women in the Room (Hint: It's all about perspective)

This week, I did a little research and found out that the average american is bombarded with over 5,000 advertisements a day. It doesn't matter if you're driving through a small town, scrolling through social media, or snuggled up in your bed watching one of those god-awful housewife shows, you're gonna see ads. And unfortunately these advertisements can have a considerably negative impact on the way we see ourselves whether we realize it or not.

A surprisingly vast amount of these ads are for some kind of beauty product (No Katy Perry I don't want eyelashes that look like flowers, I weirdly prefer eyelashes that look like eyelashes, I know...I'm that basic, what can I say?). And trust me, I love beauty products as much as you all do, my vanity is a miniature Sephora in itself. But I can't help but get slight chill up my spine when I watch a model practically break her neck while she whips her hair claiming that you too can become the most beautiful women in the room if you purchase this wonderfully gimmick-y eyeliner that apparently makes your eyes appear 7x bigger.

The reason I hate it is because I am such a sucker for this kind of thing, and I know I'm not the only one. In the past, I've found myself constantly chasing this idea of what I thought I was supposed to look like. This version of me required that I attain thinner legs, a smaller nose and silky straight hair like the girl in the eyeliner ad.

And I am constantly hearing other women do the same thing. "If only I was..." is a phrase I hear way too many women use in reference to their appearance (and just in general really). We have completely fallen victims to our societal beauty standards, and it's such a tiny box that most of us are never going to fit in, and no amount of beauty enhancing product is going to get us there. Fact is, unless we spent our lives in Walmart, we're most likely never going to become advertising's idea of the most beautiful women in the room.

So why don't we just work on becoming women who, hey, already looks a lot like we all do; different. I know I'm not the only one who's ready for all types of beauty to be celebrated in our culture. It's time that women stop putting ourselves against one another and start working as a team to celebrate each of our own unique beauty.

Imagine living in a society where women feel just as confident as the average man does. And this confidence is based on a whole sum of reasons, not just that we no longer feel shame for our imperfections, but because all women can be awesome and beautiful if they believe they are, and some of us need to start believing it! I know this is probably something you've heard 1,000 times before but it's a timeless message, and I wanted to say it just in case someone reading this hasn't.

All people, even despite outside influences, can have total control of the way they view themselves. My point here is that it's all in perspective. That's right, your mama does know best, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you choose to believe you are the most beautiful women in the room, then congrats girl, you are! And this attitude in a women is by far one of the most sexy, gorgeous, and unique qualities a woman can have.
