Here at Halfstack, we love to celebrate the up-and-comers that are challenging the status quo.  Below, I've pulled together a few brands that are doing things a little differently.

Flair for the Hair

Elizabeth Heard: Party Animal barrette

Elizabeth Heard is bringing back the barrette, but I'm not talking about the plastic ones you wore in middle school when you were trying to grow out your bangs.  She has introduced styles that are on trend, fusing fashion and function.  Heard attended Parsons School of Design to perfect her craft, and soon what had started as a personal project became a growing online and wholesale business.  She currently has two collections out, the first entitled "You're a Gem" featuring a colorful, one of a kind gemstone- perfect for pulling back hair into a sleek half-up style.  The second is the gold plated Party Animal collection which is perfect for adding a little something extra to big, boho waves.

Speaking of elephants, we love what this brand is doing.  For every item sold, $1-$2 is donated to The African Wildlife Foundation.  By purchasing their products,  you are supporting a small business AND saving elephants... Not to mention getting your hands on some cool handmade, unisex pieces.  So far, they have already donated $84,925 to help prevent poaching! They offer various styles of bohemian elephant print pants, shorts, rompers, hobo bags, wall hangings and even an adorable stuffed version of their mascot "Ellie", an elephant in bright red pants.  

Duffield Lane

Duffield Lane features preppy dresses and separates that are incredibly comfortable.  The president of the company, Jamie Duffield, started the company with her mother when they couldn't find any stylish pajamas to wear on Christmas Eve.  While the brand started with luxe sleep and loungewear, Duffield later branched out into other comfy styles.  Their goal is to provide clothes that can take young women through every part of their day; from studying to date night.  The pieces are classic and effortless, yet distinctively Duffield Lane through nautical touches such as rope details.
