Al Scorch and the Country Soul Ensemble celebrated the release of their most recent LP Saturday at Schuba's Tavern. Live at the Spirit Store recorded in Dundalk, Ireland during their European tour. Put out by Gray Sky MicroPress Live at the Spirit Store encapsulates all the aspects fans love from a live show with Scorch: the banter, the energy and the banjo.
Jack Klatt, traveling from Minneapolis with just his guitar, opened up the show with a range of music he describes as '...hokum blues to the roots of country music.'
Scorch frequently plays solo but Saturday the staged was pack with the Country Soul Ensemble fiddle, drums, upright bass, cello and french horn. Local singer song writer and friend of the Country Soul EnsembleSima Cunningham joined in half way through the set to help with some backing vocals.
You can catch Al Scorch and the Country Soul Ensemble at Do Division Street May 30th
