Smaller in size compared to some of Chicago's main venues, like Riviera and the Chicago Theater, Metro provides a more intimate setting. This vibe paired perfectly with Meg Mac's genuine interaction with her audience. Between songs, she spoke to the crowded room, balcony to main floor, as if they were dear friends, reconnecting after years apart.
Mac's set featured songs from her newly released, self-titled EP. Her final song and current single, Roll Up Your Sleeves, had the audience clapping along and left them surged for the night's headlining group, Clean Bandit.
After her performance, I met up with Mac by the merch table. Her quiet persona was a surprising, yet humbling contrast to her fierce stage presence. She shared with me that she was excited about her tour, especially to be performing in the U.S. Well, the excitement is definitely mutual! Her innovative sound is sure to shake things up here in the states; a much needed wake up for our ears and playlists.
