Halfstack Magazine had the pleasure of speaking with lead
singer and violinist of Adia & the 7 Eyes. They are comprised of Chicago’s
finest: Matt Nelson on keyboards, Geoff Lowe on bass, Zoey Witz on guitar, and Frank Alongi on drums. Blending
elements of several genres and styles their sound is explosive, their lyrics intimate,
personal and grandiose.
Adia is an American neo-soul rock violinist, singer and
songwriter. Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI; Adia enrolled in her first violin
lessons when she was just three and a half years old. Her talent was
unquestionable throughout her musical studies, which culminated in a Master of
Music degree in violin performance from DePaul University in Chicago.
Here’s where the dream became reality, early on, while
working towards her Master of music degree in violin performance, her private
lesson teacher advised her that she was not good enough, and basically said
that she did not have the technical skill to be a professional musician. Hearing this from her mentor, the
person who was supposed to support her and help her was the moment, which
brought her down to a place she had not been before. She had a choice, to listen to someone else’s opinion of
what they thought a professional musician should sound like, or move on and
create something on her own… thankfully she chose the latter. She is currently a professional musician, making music,
teaching, mentoring, creating and helping. Her music is her life, exemplified by the joy she has
creating it with her band mates.
Adia & The 7 Eyes, a band that lives for their
electrifying concert performances that combine the raw power of rock with
blues, funk and soul influences. Their EP Live from the Alley quickly caught
attention of the music insiders. In addition to fast growing national and
international iRadio and indie blog exposure, the band recently won Chicago
Deli Magazine Artist of The Month, as well as recent winner of the 2014 Judges’
Selection for the Experience Hendrix Tour, and the 2013 Steve Vai Best in Shred competition.
